Phantom? Another carving …

I only just finished this the other day, although I’ve been whittling away at it for a few weeks now.

Part of me wanted to carve out more intricate detail on the side and back yet, alas, inspiration deserted me … as did patience!

The Phantom's mask? No. I don't know either!

So.  What we got here is a fialure to communicake … shum men you jusht can’t reach; sh-o you get what we had here lasht week.  Which is the way he want it … weel.  He get!

That ^^ was a bit of a random paragraph which pretty much sums up this carving.  The reference to the Phantom comes from the curve of the remaininig bark which kin of reminds me of the Phantom of the Opera images with the curve of the mask … of course, my carving here is nothing like that … it’s just all in my head …

As ever, this is also featured here in my arts blog.

  1. your art makes me stunned.. it is very difficult to imagine how do you SEE all these faces in just a plain piece of wood…

  2. Hi Polina,

Thanks, It’s all there in the grain and knots. the curve and shapes they form can be very suggestive of potential form, it just so happens I see faces … I’m sure that must say something about my state of mind?!
