a wee garden update

There was much excitement this afternoon as I ventured out into the rain-sun-rain-sun-rain-sun-rain-sun-rain-s… - you get the idea - to inspect our vegetables.  I’m not sure why there was much excitement, the kids have pretty much been like that all day and to be honest I wasn’t altogether bothered what the weather was like outside so long as I was out there.  Alone.

Anyway, once I was out there it was very exciting - if your life is as dull as mine it is exciting.  Why was it exciting, well aside from the random potato plants pushing up between my broad beans I found two baby pea pods and my mystery crop was, at least partially, ready for harvest!

As promised in my last gardening postsome ‘link love’ for those who could correctly guess what the mystery crop is.  Obviously I was inundated with responses … strangely most of them arrived by e-mail and so don’t show up in the comments section of the post … but, er, there were LOADS … honest.  Anyway, out of all the responses I got there was one bright shiny star who had the guile and genius to identify the crop.  Congratulations to the inimitable Leendaluu of Wit’s End fame who correctly identified the mystery crop as Radish.

Yum.  We had them as a wee starter, which was fun as the lad exclaimed that his tongue felt ‘funny’ and started demanding a drink of juice … tee-hee-hee, oh cruel me!

Just as a point of interest, in the background in the pic are two loaves of homemade seeded batch bread.  yum-yum-yum!  Bread-making has become a fairly big part of my life recently as we tighten our budget in anticipation of skint-ness and refuse to pay the silly money that bread seems to cost at the minute, yup, thanks Gordon … although that’s another post for another time.
