a nice father’s day change

Just under a year ago I wrote this post following father’s day.  It wasn’t the post that I had hoped to be writing about it, I think this one might have been the one I wanted to write last year.

Father’s Day, and I suppose Mother’s Day too, is meant to be an opportunity to say ‘thank-you’ or just to pamper the parent in question.  It’s not something I’ve ever really bought into, it’s always struck me as more of a marketing exercise than anything else, bu’hey there you go.

This year I was awoken at about 8.30am by the mrs, the lad and the lass – the latter two jumping on the bed and the former cautiously carrying a hot plate of breakfast into the room.  As the lad deposited the card on my lap and demanded a bleary eyed kiss from his dad, the lass warily toddled her way around the side of the bed to get hers.

Breakfast was good and consisted of sausages, bacon, eggs, and (mercifully) no grilled tomato!

All washed down with a nice cuppa tea … smashing!

It was a nice, if not somewhat unexpected start to the day – as a rule the mrs is forbidden from cooking although she made fair stab at breakfast and so all was good.

As a stay-at-home-dad I had the option of being given some peace for a change and, following a pleasant morning with the kids, that was exactly what I opted for.  The mrs took the kids away and I retreated to the garden and generally chilled out … it was a nice and welcome break.

So. Thanks to the mrs for giving me the break I needed.
