big brother’s big bollocks

Big Brother (the hit Channel 4 excuse for popular television) has made a big show of ejecting a ‘contestant’ for using a very bad word which begins with ‘N’ and has it’s origins in referring to Black people and the slave trade.

Well done Channel 4 then … apparently.

Who would have thought it possible following the Jade “I’m a fat minger” Goodie and Shilpa “I’m an entirely unknown actress” Shetty controversy that anyone would ever be in the slightest bit racist ever.  Certainly no TV Executive could possibly engineer such a situation to prove the shows ‘goodness’ and boost ratings into the bargain … no that would never happen would it?

If it did happen I imagine the ‘contestant’ will slip off into the night somewhere and never be seen again … or am I just a skeptic.

Interestingly I don’t actually give a toss, Big Brother is bollocks on an epic scale - it’s a sad state of affairs that TV has been reduced to this tosh.

Ah big Brother - dont get me started. Shows like Big Brother are just valium for the masses, the modern equivalent of the “opium of the people”. They keep the populace glued to the little box in the corner without having to engage a single neuron.

I heard an interesting comment by an american black comedian on PM on radio 4 tonight - he reckoned the fuss about the use of the N word was just a load of old hogwash, in particular as I gather the lassie who used it was doing it in a friendly fashion with a fellow contestant.

Thanks for your visit and comment at my blog

I tend not to blog on things like BB, but this ’story’ hit the headlines and it just stank to me. You’re right about this being “opium of the people”, so long as people are paying attention to this dross they’re not questioning anything else, or even paying attention …

… take the current memorandi of understanding with Libya controversy for example, an awful lot of people, I’m guessing, would rather watch BB than have a look at that particular issue … I’m guessing that that will be arriving on the pages of this blog before the end of the day …
